Chanterelles!

Well, I did say I wouldn’t overwhelm you with too many posts!
It’s been a while since I posted, no, we did not eat the deadly gems! We have been busy working and doing forays in and around the Adirondacks on the weekends whenever we can. We have wanted to find some chanterelles but just when we think we found some they weren’t quite right. And the number  one rule is if you have ANY doubt at all don’t eat them!
Randy had gone fishing and found these lovely gems, a large group of them in fact! He brought some home and looked them up online and in his book. They were NOT chanterelles but were the deadly Jack-o-lantern mushroom. They weren’t growing in the right place and were too close together and the color was off. So disappointing!

Fast forward a few weeks… we were camping after a month of rain, no kidding, this July was the wettest in recorded history in our area,  and the mushrooms were prolific! We found so many different types it is amazing!  I will post more pictures later but the most exciting ones are the chanterelle! They were growing in the right place and way and looked like the reference guide and a mushroom group confirmed they were  chanterelle.
We did not eat them though since we didn’t have cell service at camp and it was too long to store them before we could check with our group. Maybe the next time we will be able to confirm more quickly and get to taste them.
Thanks again for joining us!

Welcome to my blog! I'm excited to be creating fiber sculptures of nature, going on forays, hikes and biking in the Adirondacks and the 1,000 Islands regions for inspiration with my husband, Randy.
