 MUSHROOMS

Mushrooms are all the rage right now!  I love a good hike to gather research photos and data to design and create a bespoke fine art embroidered piece for display to remind you of great times in the woods!

The wildflowers that can be found in New York State, especially in spring, are so refreshing and often illegal to pick since they are endangered. What better way to celebrate their beauty and rarity than a hand embroidered fine art piece!

Wool Abstracts

Wool Abstract Panels

Wool Abstracts are my new obsession! I love the cell like, organic,
flowing look they have with all of the different stitches and colors.
Some of my pieces are inspired by  microscopic slides of mushrooms,
pine needles, and nature in general, used with permission from the
microscopic photographer, and are called Scientific  Embroideries
or Scientific Art.

A little about me

connie Noftsier
Connie Noftsier Fiber artist specializing in sculptural art, aerial landscapes, sonograms and photography.
wildflower art

I have been embroidering and designing for 50 years, exploring different fiber art techniques and styles. Nature has always been a constant thread in my work and subject matter. Living in the foothills of the Adirondacks brings me close to nature and gives me ample opportunity to hike, study and take reference photos for authentic fiber art sculptures focused on Adirondack Mountain native flora. I'm excited to explore these forests, share what I've found inspiring and to hear what inspires you!

A little more about me
When I was nine my mom bought me an embroidery kit and I fell in love with stitching! I put embroidery on everything, my apron I made in Home Ec class needed just a little something to personalize it as mine, shirts, pillow cases, you name it, it would look better with embroidery on it! Even my floppy jean hat didn't get out of the house without a little something extra embroidered on it!

I hand embroidered a set of pillowcases and my 5th grade teacher saw me working on it in study hall and offered to put a beautiful crocheted edge on them while she sailed to far off places in the summer months. Wasn't she a gem and a kind fellow textile artist? I have those pillow cases to this day!

My passion for fiber art continued once I got married and I created hooped wedding samplers for many of our friends as gifts.

Then it progressed to crewel needlework and then counted cross stitch as our children grew.
Recently I became fascinated by 3D embroidery and needle painting and have developed intricate patterns for several Adirondack fiber art mushrooms, butterflies and moths, leaves, moss and flowers making sculptural art and using  wood collected in the foothills of the Adirondacks as bases to display on mantles, walls and tabletops.

The process of foraging in the woods for edible mushrooms with my husband in the Adirondacks and the 1000 Islands to photograph, study, and have for dinner is a fulfilling adventure that I find I crave more and more.

I have exciting plans for my nature focused series and will be adding butterflies, moths and dragonflies and more each year. Watch for my next release!

I also custom design aerial landscapes of clients homes, farms, camps and businesses and custom design baby sonograms. I would love to work with you on a custom piece, either landscape, sonogram or sculptural fiber art to suit your taste and artistic vision.

After a long winter I delight in looking for these beautiful trillium in the spring as they are some of the first flowers to brave the still cool nights here in northern New York. Some times you only see a handful in an area other times it's a few more and they may be mixed in with white ones too! The dutchman's breeches and lady slippers are also spring favorites that I hope to embroidery soon.

GALLERY EXHIBITS AND CONNECTIONS
Tupper lake art
I have a couple pieces at Tupper Arts in Tupper Lake, New York. They have a vibrant and lovely gallery there in the Adirondacks.  This piece is my first autumn landscape and I'm pleased with how it came out, it's  so different from the summer one with green trees.    www.tupperarts.org/

Lake Placid is a lovely place in summer but is known most for it's Olympic Winter Sports venues. Athletes train and compete here still and the town is picturesque. This overview of the Lake Placid is my first embroidered  winter landscape.

Frequently Asked Questions

General Questions
1.
How do you do that???
Yes, it really is all hand stitched! I create a pattern and "needlepaint", a fancy way to say blend the subtle different colors of stitches together, and then stitch those needlepainted sections of the pattern together for a posable sculpture! I choose the background or base for each sculpture adding embroidered moss, leaves or even fungus to complete an authentic woodland scene. It takes many hours to create one mushroom or flower and then many more to stitch the supporting pieces. The backgrounds or bases are then made to compliment and present each piece in a unique, one of a kind way.

2. What materials do you use to make it 3D?  I’ve created patterns that I wire and embroider and then join together into a 3D shape, using felt, mesh, organza and supporting materials to allow it to be positioned in the grouping envisioned.
3. How do you ship?  USPS
4. May I pick up my art and see the studio? Yes, by appointment!
5. Do you have a return policy? No returns, all sales final.
6. How do I care for my art piece? For sculpture installations, canned air if it gets dusty, a very light rolling of a lint roller would also remove dust.
7. Do you offer Gift Certificates?   Yes! Just call or email me and we get the certificate made out and sent.

ClicK for More Custom Order Info
1. How long does it take for a custom order?
It can be two weeks to roughly 1 month from the time we finalize the order with your unique components and also depends on the time of year and my schedule.

2. How much will a custom work cost?

A custom landscape of the same size and framing is the same cost as an existing landscape, $1,000 plus taxes and shipping.
A custom sculpture will vary greatly depending on size and multiple sculptures, we will try to determine what you would like and an estimate for a cost.
The custom 8x10 sonograms take about two weeks, start to finish and are $100 plus frame, shipping and tax.

3. What is the process to begin a custom fiber art sculpture?
Contact me and we will discuss ideas and needs you may have, I will put together a design and estimated cost. After I receive a deposit I can begin creating your unique piece of art! This may take a couple months in which you will get emailed updates on the progress. If you would like to send me a piece of wood from your property to install the embroidery to or have me come and choose one that is an option also. Once the design is complete you can stop in to pick it up or I can ship it to you ready to install on your table, desk, mantle or wall.

4. How do I start the process for a custom sonogram? Email me your request with a clear photo of the sonogram and give me a call to get the details all determined, time of completion, whether you want matted or framed, shipped or pick up and total cost. There are no returns for sonograms.

5. How do I start the process for a custom aerial landscape? Email me your request with the exact address and if possible a satellite aerial view of the landscape you would like embroidered.
